Lori McKennaEver since I saw Lori McKenna steal the spotlight with her bit part in Miss Folk America, I've been a big fan of this suburban mother (woo hoo! ...but not really). Because she has a large army of children, she doesn't tour with any regularity and she hardly comes down South. I think, though, that the opening gigs she's been doing for Faith Hill and Trisha Yearwood are expanding her mindset that she has an audience all over the country.

Well, tonight, Lori finally made it to Atlanta. She was the last artist that I needed to see on my "list". I knew she would live up to all expectations I had because she's an absolute genius. I honestly consider her to be the most talented American songwriter today.

But as I was watching her and being overcome with emotion (cause I'm fragile like that), I didn't expect to feel this overwhelming sense of adoration for her. I adore Lori McKenna is what I'm saying and I'm not sure how I feel about that.

Great...now I have to go explore my feelings.

I was just suddenly overcome with emotion for Lori McKenna and I had to share. How could a New England housewife affect me so? I don't know. Maybe looking at her will help.

Well, I'm still stumped. Oh yeah, she's a singer and, more importantly, a freakin brilliant songwriter. I discovered her from her bit appearance in Miss Folk America. That deserves its own soliloquy someday.

Maybe LM taps into my inner housewife. If you listen to her and also find an urge to clean the kitchen and drive some child to soccer practice, please let me know.

But for real, I adore her. Now, excuse me, I must go vacuum.

During my summer of drugs or some other Isabelle-induced haze, I completely missed the release of Lori McKenna's new album in August. This is her first album after Faith Hill, talentless but pretty!, "discovered" (haha) LM and made her a country supastah. Mr. Faith Hill (Tim McGraw) even produced this and produced and slightly soul-less it is, although that's never stopped me from enjoying such music, right Backstreet Boys?

The album as a whole still has a LM sound and that's all I care about. Ok, that's a lie. I kinda care that she's all air-brushed and Nashville-ized but that mostly comes from some possessive "I knew her before you did, Faith" feeling. I have issues with Faith Hill is what I'm saying and more so than ever now that she does the opening on NBC's Sunday Night Football. It's just so bad. I know, I'm going to have to work through this...on my own time.

Anyway, Lori McKenna's album is called Unglamorous and it's available everywhere. There's a re-do of Falter, which is really better in its first incarnation on the Kitchen Tapes. My favorite so far is Your Next Lover, a typical LM song. Note that typical = freaking awesome. This woman can do very little wrong since I saw her before Faith did on Miss Folk America years ago. Have you seen that little schlock opera, Faith? Have you? Hmmmm?
