Up close and personal
One of our deals from all the Black Friday shopping was a new digital camera. Cylinda was playing around with it and usually, when she plays around with a camera, the cats are not safe.
But instead of frighteningly close mug shots of their faces that usually result from her "playtime", she captured some pictures of Jonas at a nice and safe distance away from him. I'm very proud of her restraint.
Here's the boy when he's not destroying every material object we own:

Hardcore
The key to a successful Black Friday experience: Don't go to sleep. Sleep is for the weak. A movie is a good way to pass the time before the stores open, especially if Parker Posey is in it. Hell yeah. At midnight, we hit the outlets. It was all red rear car lights stretching six miles away, but we got there eventually and had our personal space invaded many, many times. It was worth it for over 40% off sales. After that, we got to Fry's at 4 am, got good loot and avoided elbows because we didn't join this crowd:

I am not this crazy. No, wait, I am.

Sacrificial pumpkins
With the traditional destruction of pumpkins out of the way (messy, messy), we can now really start celebrating Thanksgiving. How far can you senselessly chuck a turkey? Or cranberry sauce? Hint: Keep it in the can and it'll fly farther.

Questionable parenting
"Investigators said Gretchen Morales disappeared from her Davenport home last week and left her two young children there alone. She showed up in St. Petersburg the next day and told police two men in a van had abducted her. Monday, Morales confessed that she really went to Busch Gardens to meet a man."
Woman Who Claimed Abduction Was Actually At Theme Park (WFTV, 11/21/06)
I say her fatal flaw was going somewhere kids actually belong. She should've gone to a casino and that would've been a good enough excuse (for me, maybe not the cops) since kids aren't supposed to be there. My parents left me and my brothers to go to Atlantic City hundreds of times (I mean, once or twice) and we turned out okay. Didn't we? Huh?
Once, they took us to the casinos, but left us alone in the arcade room where we proceeded to stick about 100 quarters in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game. It was an awesome half hour of our lives.

More like it
Who doesn't enjoy moments when nature enacts sweet, sweet revenge involving no death or loss of limbs? I certainly do! My life would be more complete if there were more (true) stories like this:
Rogue sea lion bites at least 14 (AJC, 11/16/2006)

Stand back. This sea lion is ferocious. Chomp chomp.

Ok, now I'm giddy
I don't have time today to think about Georgia's mostly disappointing election results or the people of this state's flippant attitude towards the state constitution and their blind idea of "patriotism" in the face of common sense. I do have time to insufferably gloat over:
- Nancy Pelosi as the soon-to-be first female House Speaker ever: While this is positively historic, it's also negatively historic is that she's ONLY the first.
- Donald Rumsfeld resigning: Pelosi said, "He has to go." An hour later, he's gone. That's awesome and just a little bit hot. (Ok, so it didn't really happen like that, but it sorta did.)
- Republicans losing the House and Senate: I didn't care who they lost it to as long as the president will now be held accountable for all the wire-tapping, science-muzzling, torture-rationalizing, fact-make-upping-so-we-can-go-to-war-war-war crap that has gone unchecked for too long.
- Arizona NOT passing ban on same-sex marriage as a constitutional amendment: As the first state to NOT pass an amendent when presented on the ballot, especially when they passed two more conservative-like amendents (English as the official language and reduced public services for illegal immigrants), I shake my head and applaud lightly in their direction.
Since the news of the day is all of the above, you know I'm not lying. Not today. This is unbelievable, especially since I was very convinced that the Democrats would surely find a way to mess it all up. They still have two years to do just that, but for today, I'm going to find myself a Republican (not hard down here) and just smile.

Like this. Only less furry. And goaty.

Helmets are good
I've been watching a lot of football this season. I don't think I've missed a single game shown on the broadcast networks. That means switching back and forth between the early games, sometimes doing that for the afternoon game(s) if there's more than one on and then watching the Sunday night and Monday night games. I don't watch college very much since...I have no idea why I don't. Hmmm... Ok, that's enough exploring.
I always watch the Falcons, cause duh, but if not, I tend to root against teams since I have so many I hate. I hate many more than I like. But I do like the Colts and if the Broncos are on, I'll root for them. Why? Cause I kind of, sort of have this funny positive emotion like feeling whenever I see Champ Bailey. He's always making the big plays (dreamy) and wears his uniform nice and neat which is otherwise ridiculous to say because I find football uniforms to be unflattering on everybody.

Uhh, wait, that's Champ? Have to say, more dreamy WITH the helmet.
Ok, nevermind, back to Isabelle.

She never needs a helmet.
Oh, and the crush. Last week, my affection for the crush was amped up to an almost annoying level (almost?) after she touched my arm for 3, maybe even 4, seconds and then smiled at me with all her charm and clear, sky blue eyes. Swoon.

Ow, sorry, my head fell on the keyboard. Excuse me while I dislodge the J key from my eyebrow.

The color brown
- Socks that are brown at 6:30 AM can suddenly change into purple at noon. I'm not kidding. My socks were brown when I left for work this morning. They aren't anymore.
- I started writing my November novel yesterday and that's why I'm blogging right now. No, of course, I'm not stalling. I have a good start, but I really need to do the laundry. And the cats could use a good washing.
- I've begun my descent? ascent? into the world of goth: I got a Cruxshadows CD and I'm not immediately put off by it! In fact, I like one of the songs a whole lot and I've only listened to it twice through. Maybe if got some black clothes on, I would rock out on it even more.
- My taste in fashion is probably as circumspect as my taste in music, but I bought new shoes all by myself the other day. They're a little too big and make me feel like I'm clogging around Holland, but they go real well with my wardrobe that I constantly have to re-think.
- I hate socks.
- I still am crushing on the crush who has even more charming powers that I initially thought. Cylinda (addled-brain that she is now with law school) encourages me to talk to the crush more. Who am I to disagree?
